Our Adaptive Solvent Trap cleaning kits have dual use cleaning and storage capability. This article will provide more information on each of the Adaptive Solvent Traps to help our customers have a better understanding of each product.

We do not create demand; we facilitate demand by providing quality and a unique supply of products that consist of the legal features people may use for cleaning and storage, or both. Currently, there are six adaptive solvent trap kits available on our catalog and there are new models currently going through our prototype, quality and design process for additional storage capability such as multiple storage compartment for dry storage or storage during transport.

Our Adaptive Solvent Trap kits have five have industry standard thread pitches for cross-industry compatibility for streamlined cleaning. All five of these cleaning and storage kits have an outer diameter (OD) of 1.57” and an Inner diameter (ID) of around 1.18”. Of these five solvent trap kits, the build material options are 7075 Billet Aircraft Aluminum, 304 Stainless Steel and Grade 5 Titanium.

There are several reasons counterfeit solvent traps are seized at customs. The primary reason being constructive intent. For example, center marks on any piece of the product or any indication where the solvent trap would be used for anything other than firearm cleaning.

The issue is that these overseas suppliers will tell you there are no center-marks or post images of products without center-marks, and then they ship you center-marked items anyway. Armory Den = HELL YEA! 🙂 Finally a company who doesn't rip people off. I searched forever for a trap kit that matches industry design and option. Ran into tons of scam sites until now. I bought the 304 Steel Adaptive Trap (10" inch) and that was on a Friday. That same night or the next day they already had USPS label from Florida and it shipped out that same day! Armory Den is the best site out of all the knock off scams or just plain fraudulent sites claiming to sell traps. Everything from their shipping to the transparency of sells via Stripe payment, keeps reputation in the front seat. Thank you whoever runs Armory Den. You are doing so many people favors. Customer’s that have done business with Armory Den, know that we invest in our staff, infrastructure, and value not only our customers, but their feedback as well. Our chief cornerstone value is customer service, and we take pride in all feedback provided, and our staff speaks with upper management to take action on customer feedback, if possible. A great example of Armory Den’s propensity to act on customer feedback, is evidenced in the thread protectors included in our AD Radial-8 Adaptive Solvent Trap Kit.

Customers that purchase multiple solvent trap thread protectors had issues identifying the TPI of each mount. Generally, it is easy to identify the most common a 1/2×28” and 5/8×24” thread protector size. However, when placing the 1/2×28” and 5/8×24” beside the 9/16×24” or .578×28”, it proves difficult to know what size is what.

In response to this feedback, we had our product development team include imprints of the thread size on the internal side of the AD-Radial-8 thread protectors, including the 5/8×24” and 1/2×28” thread protectors which are included with each kit. The rarer thread protectors are sold separately.

Industry Standard Thread Pitch and Configurability

We pride ourselves on keeping up to date on market demand and what our customers actually want. Armory Den is not new to firearms, and our owners and operators each have at least a decade of experience in the industry, from firearms training, to licensed dealer experience, and more, so we only create and stock items we know the people want and that we would personally purchase for ourselves!

The Radial-8 Solvent Trap kit has a standard thread pitch of 1.375-24 TPI. Through our research and customer feedback, we found that some customers do not want to deal with direct threading their solvent traps to their firearms. This is because some firearms require tools and time to remove muzzles devices or other items they own in order to thread the solvent trap on for cleaning.

But There Is More!

To take configurability to the next level, we have decided to include our 1.375-24 TPI Male to 1.1875 TPI Female adapter in with this the AD adial-8 kits! This adapter converts the solvent trap kit into another industry standard thread pitch of 1.1875-24 TPI for further compatibility!

This allows this solvent trap kit to adapt to some of Armory Den’s muzzle devices for streamlined cleaning, and adapt to many other third-party devices sold by other companies.

Solvent Trap Adapters for Cleaning Pistols

If you have purchased or thinking about purchasing a solvent trap cleaning kit for a browning style pistol, such as a Glock, you may have run into a common issue depending on the diameter of the solvent trap. Glocks have guide rods like many other firearms in its class. When the solvent trap is connected to a Glock, and the slide is racked (or cocked), the guide rod protrudes from of the front of the pistol hitting the installed solvent trap. This is a very common problem we solved.

When this occurs, the slide of the firearm is stopped in its tracks and will not rack at all. This makes it impossible to run solvent through the firearm when a solvent trap is installed. Armory Den is extremely in tune with customer feedback. We responded to our customers through action and problem solving. The way we solved the guide rod problem is by offering Muzzle Extention Device that work with select solvent trap kits. This allows the slide to rack and provides enough room for the guide rod to stick out fully, without coming in contact with the solvent trap kit.

The video on our homepage provides a visual demonstration of the guide rod problem on a Glock 19 Gen 5 MOS, and the Muzzle Extention Device as a solution. The solvent trap that was used during this video is a 7” Aluminum Tube 1.45”OD Solvent Trap Kit and the compatible M34 Muzzle Extension Device.

Solvent Trap Adapters for Cleaning Rifles

Rifle cleaning can be straightforward, but when it comes to efficiently using a solvent trap on popular rifles such as the AR-15 or AR-10, selecting the correct kit can be the difference in a 45 second connect/disconnect process and a 30 minute connect/disconnect process.

Standard AR-15s come with a flash hider that is threaded onto a 1/2×28” barrel. Likewise, AR-10s come with a flash hider threaded onto a 5/8×24” barrel. In either case, flash hiders are not hand tight, they shouldn’t be… They are normally installed so securely that it takes a vice and an AR-15 Wrench equipped with a flash hider remover to remove the part. This is required because the solvent trap must take its place during the cleaning process.

There are many items on the market that can be used to quickly and conveniently connect and disconnect the solvent trap to AR-15s and AR-10s. What is important though is that you know what you are getting into and that the correct kit is purchased, with standardized thread protectors and adapters, allowing for these solvent trap adapters adapt. Solvent traps are devices that can be attached to the threaded muzzle of a firearm in order to capture the fluids that are used to clean your rifle and/or pistol. Cleaning your firearm regularly can help improve performance, and help improve safety and reliability.

Solvent traps have a female threaded end, so that you can attach it to the threaded barrel of a firearm, the male end. Although solvent trap kits have various designs when it comes to aesthetics, they also have mechanical designs. For instance, if you are looking to purchase a steel solvent trap, you should first understand the mechanical design needed for your firearm.

Understanding What’s Needed

Once you have an understanding of the product that will be comparable with your firearm and/or other firearm accessories you own, only then should you choose one based off the aesthetic design. Remember, the main idea is to catch cleaning fluids from the end of the barrel so that you alleviate the mess during bore cleaning processes, etc.

What’s The Best AR Solvent Trap?

We receive many very good questions from our customers. Many of the questions are asked multiple times, such as “What’s the best solvent trap for my AR-15?”. Due to receiving many of the same questions, we have started a Frequently Asked Questions area that can be found here. Armory Den recommends checking this area for any questions you may have prior to sending the question through e-mail or via the form submissions throughout the site.

Considering that many of the questions received relate to asking for a recommendation on the best AR-15 solvent trap, we thought it best to write a blog post with more detail than is available through our FAQs area. When looking into the best AR-15 solvent trap setup, it really does come down to how you would prefer it to be configured: Direct thread or quick connect/quick detach. Sure, picking Aluminum or Titanium is a choice too, but you can go either way on the material side, but it is true that Titanium will always prove to be the best option for an AR Solvent Trap.

Direct Thread Configuration

If you don’t mind removing your flash hider to install your solvent trap every time you have a cleaning session, the Direct Thread option may be your best bet. For AR-15s, our most popular direct thread setups are our 10” Aluminum Tube 1.75”OD|1.50”ID with Stainless Steel Cups Kit, the 7” Aluminum Tube 1.45”OD|1.25”ID with Stainless Steel Cups Kit and the 9” 7075 Aluminum tube 1.73”OD|1.375”ID D Cell Sized K Cups Kit. These three kits are very popular, the D Cell Kit is a little heavier but is very popular for AR-15s and sports Stainless Steel K Cups. Due to the pitch on these three kits not being standardized, there exists close to no available quick detach/quick connect or other muzzle device attachments on the market that will adapt to these kits. One must use an AR-15 wrench to remove their flash hider and then install the AR Solvent Trap over the thread, that since removing the flash hider will now be exposed. Each of the kits above come with a 1/2×28” and a 5/8×24” thread protector.

The Titanium version of the 7” by 1.45”OD|1.25”ID kit is very popular as well for those that would like to get the absolute best quality by spending an extra $100+. This kit is identical to the 7” Aluminum Tube Kit mentioned above, but the tube is Grade 5 Titanium and the thread protector and end caps are as well. Titanium kits only come with either a 1/2×28” adapter or a 5/8×24” adapter, so be sure to get the 1/2×28” thread protector if an AR-15 is the rifle you would like to use the solvent trap to clean. You can also purchase 1/2×28” and 5/8×24” 1.45”OD|1.25”ID titanium thread protectors individually if you want to have both thread types.

3-Lug/Trilug Quick Connect Configuration

Many of our customers want a more streamlined approach to using their solvent traps. These individuals do not want to deal with removing their AR Flash hider to install their 1/2×28” AR Solvent Trap. In this case, we recommend either our 1.57”OD Billet Aluminum Adaptive Solvent Trap ™ or our 1.57”OD GR5 Titanium Adaptive Solvent Trap ™. Again, if you decide to proceed with the Titanium version of our 1.57”OD Adaptive Solvent Trap ™ Kit, you will want to purchase a 1/2×28” thread protector to direct thread. But a more streamline option is available by purchasing the kit with the TPI Adapter option or you purchase the TPI Adapter separately. This is the first step in setting up a Quick Connect/Quick Detach Configuration. Next, you will want to look at the AD Trinity Trilug Muzzle Device. This Muzzle Device will adapt to the 1-3/16×24 TPI|1.1875×24 TPI adapter mentioned above.

Then, you can source the market for a 3-Lug Muzzle Break. The muzzle break would replace your AR-15 Flash Hider and would allow your 1.57”OD Billet Aluminum/Titanium Adaptive Solvent Trap ™ kit using the Trilug Muzzle Device, to quick connect to your AR-15 – This is the best way and the most streamlined AR Solvent Trap setup. This way, you don’t have to remove your flash hider every time you want to install the AR Solvent Trap for a cleaning session, just quick connect to your 3-Lug Muzzle Break and you are ready to clean!

It Really Comes Down To Preference

Why Do People Form 1 Their Solvent Traps?

Please note this article does not recommend or endorse modifications or alterations to our solvent traps or any other products we sell on our website. This is purely educational to inform those entering this market of the realities of what many individuals and companies are doing. This article is to simply provide information on why some people choose to form 1 their solvent trap, which can be done legally through by purchasing a Stamp Tax and submitting and receiving back and approved Form 1 from the BATFE.

If you are one of the many Americans getting their feet wet in the Class III Suppressor Market, then you may have heard terms related to the Form 1, Form 4 or Form 3 Process. Well, maybe not the Form 3 process as that is specific to dealer transfers of Class III items, such as suppressors.

Solvent Traps and Form 1 Process?

You may have heard the terms Form 1 and Form 4. The ATF and the NFAD or the National Firearms Act Division, have a knack for making basic processes sound over-technical, daunting and sometimes downright scary. In this article we will provide some information, and explain the difference between the Form 1 and Form 4, and ultimately highlight why people Form 1 their solvent traps, which should be done legally through the required stamp tax and BAFTE Form 1 submission and approval process.

Form 1 Process For Solvent Traps

The reason people Form 1 their solvent traps is because it is a more efficient way to purchase, build and register it as a ‘legal suppressor’. However, solvent traps should never be sold as suppressors because solvent traps are firearm cleaning kits and their sole purpose is to trap solvent. Cleaning your firearm regularly can improve both reliability and a safety of a firearm. The Form 1 process requires the payment of a $200 tax stamp to the BATF to be accepted in good order.

Form 4 Process

The Form 4 process, unlike the Form 1 Process is not completed by an individual, but by a licensed dealer. More specifically, it is an application for the transfer and registration of a firearm that is already nationally regulated and registered under the National Firearms Act.

The Form 4 application is used when serialized suppressors are being sold by a Class III Dealer to a retail customer. In order for this application to be considered in ‘good order’ when it is submitted for the purchase of a suppressor, the application must be accompanied by a $200 tax stamp. The official name of the ATF Form 5320.4 – Application for Tax Paid Transfer and Registration of Firearm.

Den Conclusion

A Form 1 is similar in many ways, but also has many differences. A Form 1 is what is used when someone wants to develop and register their own firearm or suppressor, rather than purchasing one from the store that is already serialized. As we will explain in more detail, the speed of the Form 1 application process especially over recent years, is much faster than the Form 4 process.

Are Solvent Trap Cups Necessary?

Many people question the purposes of solvent trap cups, the proper referencing being dry storage cups. There is so much information out there so we help to provide some information that might help. There are countless dry storage products sold online, and we sell them as assessories that can be used inside our solvent traps for storage. So naturally, it’s easy to refer these products as a solvent trap cup, plus it is a bit easier to say.

Armory Den can’t speak for other solvent trap companies and have no interest into doing so. What we can do is give you a run down on the purposes our solvent trap cups serve, which we hope to shed some light on the benefits of owning a solvent trap which can be used for both cleaning or dry storage.

What Are Solvent Trap Cups?

Armory Den’s solvent trap cups, or Dry Storage Cups to be correct, have three different styles: Dry storage cups, Adaptive Dry Storage Cups and Dry Storage Cups (K style). One thing you will notice on every one of our storage cup designs is they are not indexed. Our dry storage cups may differ in design, but are similar in that regard. Keep in mind, if you are looking to purchase a solvent for either cleaning or dry storage then there is no reason to index them.

Armory Den sells solvent traps as a firearm cleaning accessory and they make for a great dry storage solution! If you really think about it, it’s just a tube. We would never make a recommendation related to modifying our products, nor do we sell our solvent trap products with the intention of them serving any purposes than as you see on our website.

Why Are Solvent Trap Cups Muti-use Items?

Cleaning

Dry Storage cups can separate the interior space for storing items inside that are of importance or essential to you. These can also be placed into larger storage containers for organization or storage during transport. There is not only one ‘right way’ to use our dry storage cups when it comes to using them as an accessory for storage or cleaning.

A dry storage cup can also be used a ‘primary catcher’ during firearm cleaning to keep the end cap in a drier state for reuse when cleaning more than one firearm. Seal the tube with your end cap and drop a dry storage cup (well side-up) in the tube letting it slide to the bottom until it is rested onto the end cap. Once your thread protector is fastened to the other end, safely thread it to your barrel.

After cleaning is complete, make sure the end cap is facing the ground prior to removal. Once the end cap is removed, the storage cup will be rested in an upright position so you can discard the used dry storage cup safely into a bin or bag to wash later so you can reduce. Then thread your solvent trap on the next firearm you are going to clean and repeat the process.

A dry storage cup can also be used a filtering by following the same instructions above, but a bit differently. instead of placing the storage cup well-side up, you drop it in the tube well-side down letting it slide to the bottom until it hits the end cap. Once your thread protector is fastened to the other end, safely thread it to your barrel. During cleaning the debri can rest of top while the solvent filters to the end cap. The debri is seperated from the solvent and the solvent can be reused with the debri being discarded.

There is no wrong way to a dry storage cup for cleaning or dry storage!

Storage

Some use dry storage cups for prepper storage using them to place medications or ear plugs in during trips in the woods or mountains. Our quality solvent traps are air tight when closed and sealed keeping moisture out of the tube, and when creating storage compartments inside the tube.

Safety

Many visitors ask why our solvent traps are made of stronger and relatively more expensive grade 5 titanium, while other solvent traps in our den are made of 6061 T6 and/or 7075 aircraft grade aluminum. Additionally, some of our dry storage cups are made of 304 stainless steel, while our modular solvent trap cups and tubes are made of either grade 5 titanium, stainless steel or 7075 type III hard coat anodized aluminum.

One of the main reasons for this is the different firearm caliber strengths. When transporting firearms with solvent traps already screwed onto the barrel of your firearm or even storing them in your home with the proper solvent trap installed, you add an extra layer of protection or safety.

And Remember...

Remember, if a round is discharged accidentally with a solvent trap installed, the bullet will have a lot of trouble piercing through dry storage cups and the sealed end cap. If firearms are higher powered, such as .308, 7.62×39, 300 Blackout or even a 5.56 NATO/.223 – it would in theory, be more safer to go with a titanium solvent trap with stainless steel dry storage cups.

You might be shopping around for a solvent trap, a useful and effective firearm cleaning accessory. However, there are certain precautions you should take before doing so. For instance, you should be beware of online companies who do not specialize in solvent traps and those who do not sell them for legal purposes or those who reference links in their blogs directing visitors (like you) to overseas companies who sell illegal items, not intended for cleaning or adapt to storage for travel or dry storage

What's a Monocore Solvent Trap?

It’s important to share a few things on solvent trap cleaning solutions so you don’t end up purchasing an illegal product manufactured for other, potentially illicit purposes. A monocore solvent trap is illegal and can result in a criminal offence when purchased because it has a hole in the center, and throughout the cylinder. Monocore products are the ‘spiral looking’ solvent traps that you should avoid if looking for a reliable cleaning accessory for your firearm cleaning process.

Again, we recommend refraining from purchasing these items or you might find yourself with an unexpected visit from the ATF, who will confiscate the item(s) on arrival. This is assuming that the monocore solvent trap even makes it past customs. If your order is seized by customs, they will redirect them to the ATF and eventually the Field Office nearest your zip code, as it is the ATF’s jurisdiction – Shortly after, you will receive a letter and/or a visit from a Special Agent within the Crime Enforcement Division, not from Industry Operations!

According to a spokeswoman with the ATF, the purchase of a solvent trap is not illegal. However, if a solvent trap is constructed or has parts that the ATF deems are “intended” to make the device function as a suppressor (or silencer), it must be identified as such, and it must be appropriately regulated.

This is not Armory Den’s market, but it’s still important to educate our visitors to create awareness, as some companies sell them for other intended purposes, or buy them to use them for something else rather than their intended use, which is to trap solvent during bore cleaning. If you purchase a product from a home improvement store or local hardware store, you should use those products as intended. The same applies for those who purchase from our site.

What To Know About Adaptive Solvent Traps, Opposed To An Illegal Monocore Solvent Trap.

Do not be fooled with verbiage that Chinese companies use when they list their illegal products, such as ‘fuel filter’ or ‘fuel cleaning system’. Once the customer inputs their shipping address and submits their order, you are tied to that product through a digital trail.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a list of what the ATF/NFA defines as a legal vs. illegal solvent trap, interpretations can be made based on ‘constructive intent’. The ATF works with their NFA FATD “Firearms & Technology Division” counterparts to analyze individual parts, as well as the overall design of solvent traps to determine if they should be deemed unregistered suppressors, which are essentially illegal firearms parts.

Where it gets even more confusing is that some companies sell solvent traps with holes bored through the center and have a valve on the outside of the solvent trap, effectively this type of kit is made to filter the solvent and drain it for reuse. Therefore, the intent and instructed purpose is for trapping solvent, so the ATF would have a tough time deeming that type of product as anything illicit even though it has characteristics that may be deemed illicit if marketed differently by another company.

Legal Solvent Traps For Cleaning

Using the ATF/NFA interpretations, it is very easy to conclude that monocore solvent traps are illegal unregistered suppressors from a ‘constructive intent’ point-of-view, because they have a hole through the middle of the ‘Monocore’ or ‘Single Core’ cylinder. Even though foreign websites (like China) sell a majority of monocore solvent traps with a sealed end cap, you are still purchasing an item that will most likely be seized and deemed an illegal unregistered NFA item, due to the intent of the hole bored through the entire monocore.

One of the stances of the ATF/NFA that makes a solvent trap a ‘firearm accessory’, opposed to being an ‘unregistered suppressor’ is that a bullet cannot pass through the solvent trap. Monocore Solvent Traps sold in China have a hole through the entire cylinder, making it easy for a bullet to pass through it and penetrate the end cap.

Foreign Companies Are Not Bound By US Law

It is very important to note that Chinese companies are not bound by American laws, and it has been rumored that many of the Chinese suppliers include an end cap opener with their monocore solvent traps. This item screws on the end of the monocore in place of the sealed end cap and effectively “opens” the only sealed off passageway, providing a clear opening at the end of the monocore solvent trap, thus unambiguously converting it into an unregistered suppressor, for all intents and purposes.

Constructive Intent & Importing Illegal Traps

Even if Chinese companies do not provide these ‘openers,’ the simple fact that they sell solvent traps with center-marks on their end caps(commonly referred to as dimples), combined with a monocore that resembles monocores on serialized suppressors which are sold by Gemtech, YHM, and others.

Monocore’s are viewed as ‘unregistered suppressors’ and they are not legal to import into the United States. With the ATF/NFA, it comes down to ‘Constructive Intent’. If solvent traps are being sold with center markings or holes drilled through the cylinder, monocores or end caps, then they are essentially being sold as ‘unregistered suppressors’ in the eyes of the ATF. We provide cleaning guides that show customers how to clean their firearms and use solvent traps for their sole intent – to trap solvent. They work great and make clean up safe and very efficient.

The intended use of monocores, when analyzed relative to the consumer base, sellers content, and/or marketing strategy, is what the regulators consider. Most that are selling monocore solvent traps are obviously targeting the underground suppressor market. These legalities should scare the average person away from purchasing these monocore solvent traps, but surprisingly many Americans continue to buys these from shady companies and loose money from having it seized or paying court fines due to being charged with a felony.

If the legal issues involved with exporting monocore solvent traps from China isn’t a concern to you, the inferior 6061 T6 aluminum with very poor finishes should dissuade you from wanting to put them on anything more than an airsoft gun.
