Top 5 Important Tips to Know When Cleaning Your Firearm with A Solvent Trap

Information contained on this site is added on a regular basis. Due to the nature of the information posted, it becomes outdated rapidly. Users are therefore cautioned to independently verify the correctness of information contained on the website that may have become outdated. The info on our website is not legal advice and legal advice may only be provided by a properly licensed attorney. Armory Den sells solvent traps for their intended purposes of firearm cleaning and as dry storage solutions.

Armory Den has been forced to temporarily suspend resources on select products that we previously sold for both cleaning and dry storage solutions as solvent traps were mentioned in the Final Rule 2021R-05F in 2022. This is a business decision we made as do not want to risk compromising the privacy of our customers. The final rule is ambigous, lacks precision and is being challenged for several reasons. Having said this, there is no way for our company to determine which ‘select products’ (temporarily suspended) that we previously sold for cleaning and dry storage are subject to the new rule or not. Although this has been a massive burden for us and an inconvenience to our customers, we do thank you for your patience.

Thank you for choosing to support us through your purchases, we sincerely appreciate your business!

Getting your firearm clean after every training or hunting session is vital! But finding the right cleaning tools to get it well maintained can be a problem. One of the most effective ways to clean your firearm is with a solvent trap. But there are only a few that understand just how helpful these can be.

Before you tackle cleaning your firearm on your own, there are a few things you should know about using a solvent trap. There are many great reasons to dig in and use a solvent trap so let’s go through a few before starting!

A Brief Background on What is a Solvent Trap

In its most simple form, a solvent trap is a cleaning system for your firearm designed to capture any leftover cleaning solvent so you can dispose of it quickly and safely. Each solvent trap includes storage cups that capture the by-product of the cleaning process. Additionally, adaptive storage cups included in our adaptive solvent trap models can be used for storage and transport. The end of the solvent trap is capped to ensure that any of the by-products won’t leak everywhere while cleaning.

A solvent trap is typically made of three types of material: aluminum, steel, or titanium. You’ll be able to choose the one you want based on your preference of material and weight, as well as storage and transport needs. Each one will affect your firearm differently so you should choose one that works best for you despite what others might say.

Getting the inside of your firearm nice and clean won’t just leave you feeling confident with how good it looks. It can also prevent significant issues when you go to fire your firearm later on. If residue builds up inside your firearm, it can become like a bomb misfiring or exploding in your hands, causing major injury or even death.

Top Tips for Cleaning your Firearm With A Solvent Trap

Before you settle in to clean your firearm with a new solvent trap, there are a few things you should know! This will keep you safe and help your firearm function as it should.

Clean with a larger Trap

When you’re in the process of cleaning your firearm with a solvent trap, you’ll want to utilize a 10″ solvent trap to gain more space. This is going to give your firearm the room it needs for a quick refill of cleaning solution. These don’t typically come with a standard solvent trap, so you’ll need to talk to the dealer to make sure you can get your hands on one when you need it.

The 10″ is also easy to attach to your firearm and requires you to unthread the solvent trap from your firearm. This solvent trap allows the firearm to move back and forth freely so you can add cleaning solutions when needed.

Use the Storage Cups

Each of the storage cups that come with your solvent trap can be used to keep the solvents separate during cleaning. You’ll want to make sure you choose a storage cup that fits into the trap and allows you to get the finish you need.

You’ll want to make sure you replace the storage cups after they fill up with solvent and debris to keep them from sloshing back into your firearm. Replace the storage cup in the same way and let it do the work for you to keep your firearm working the way it should!

Increase the Life of Your Firearm

Using your solvent trap and storage cups is the best way to increase and maintain the life of your firearm. While regularly cleaning your firearm is the best way to make sure you can use it for a long time, you won’t want to over clean it or use the wrong cleaning solutions.

Talk to your solvent trap dealer and firearm professional to help you choose the cleaning solutions to use in your solvent trap. You’ll be able to find the right ones that fit your needs along with your solvent trap style.

Develop the Accuracy of your Firearm

By regularly cleaning your firearm, you’ll be able to increase the accuracy overall. While you can’t completely change your skill, a well-cleaned firearm will help you reduce inaccuracies and help you hit the mark more times than not.

When your firearm is well cleaned and accurate, you’ll make a better impression and bring down your next target with ease.

Getting Creative can Get you in Trouble

Solvent traps are one of the best ways to clean your firearm, but they can also be used for other, more creative purposes. Solvent traps are solely used ONLY for cleaning firearms. Any alteration or modification would lead you behind bars. So, we recommend that you stick to its sole purpose, and that is cleaning.

Bonus

Buy Only from Reputable Sellers

In addition to getting your firearm clean, it is a good idea to know where you bought your solvent traps. You’ll need to double-check where you’re getting your solvent traps and make sure they are high-quality. Buying from unknown suppliers would get you in trouble and even damage your firearm.

Takeaway

Your firearms are something you want to maintain and keep in top condition. You want only the best care and attention for your possessions to make sure they last a long time and function the way they’re designed! One of the best ways on the market today for cleaning a firearm is a solvent trap. These come in a wide range of materials and styles, so you can choose the one that suits your preferences with ease.

Solvent traps work by catching all of the cleaning solutions you put into your firearm and clearing out all debris. Solvent traps can help you maintain your firearms clean with spills and safe for the environment.

Never get creative with your solvent traps if you don’t want to get in trouble with the law.
