Armory Den’s Step-By-Step Guide on Installing Solvent Trap Adapters

armoryden June 2, 2022

Information contained on this site is added on a regular basis. Due to the nature of the information posted, it becomes outdated rapidly. Users are therefore cautioned to independently verify the correctness of information contained on the website that may have become outdated. The info on our website is not legal advice and legal advice may only be provided by a properly licensed attorney. Armory Den sells solvent traps for their intended purposes of firearm cleaning and as dry storage solutions.

Armory Den has been forced to temporarily suspend resources on select products that we previously sold for both cleaning and dry storage solutions as solvent traps were mentioned in the Final Rule 2021R-05F in 2022. This is a business decision we made as do not want to risk compromising the privacy of our customers. The final rule is ambigous, lacks precision and is being challenged for several reasons. Having said this, there is no way for our company to determine which ‘select products’ (temporarily suspended) that we previously sold for cleaning and dry storage are subject to the new rule or not. Although this has been a massive burden for us and an inconvenience to our customers, we do thank you for your patience.

Thank you for choosing to support us through your purchases, we sincerely appreciate your business!

The standardized thread adapters referred to in this article are not “thread conversion adapters” that help convert a firearm barrel thread pattern to another: i.e. if one wanted to convert a 5/8×24″ 300 Blackout Barrel Thread Pattern to a 1/2×28″ Barrel Thread Pattern to avoid purchasing a different solvent trap thread protector. Rather, the “Adapters” referred to in this article are known as TPI Adapters or Standardized Solvent Trap Adapters, which are sold and used for further streamlined firearm cleaning capabilities.

Solvent trap adapters play a vital role when cleaning your firearm. They are small connectors with two thread sizes: Normally one thread size is an industry standardized male thread with the other end being a different industry standardized female thread pattern.
Solvent trap TPI Adapters or “Adapters” for short, increase efficiency in firearm cleaning. The design of these accessories provides an avenue for streamlining the attachment and detachment of a solvent trap to the firearm’s barrel.
Solvent traps are attached to the muzzle of a firearm to collect liquids used for cleaning. The threads can be of different sizes, which can cause leakage, mess, and frustration when trying to collect the cleaning fluid.

How to Install Solvent Trap Adapters on Your Firearm

To buy the correct solvent trap adapter, identify the thread size of your solvent trap and that of your firearm. Using the thread sizes, you can get the right fit.
To install the adapter, you need two crush washers, the solvent trap adapters, a solvent trap tube, and a flat washer. The tools will come with the solvent trap adapter package.

Step 1: Remove the Flash Hider and The Crush Washer

Take the barrel of your firearm and remove the flash hider from its tip; this step will depend on your firearm and whether it has a flash hider.

Step 2: Install a Crush Washer

After disassembling the flash hider and crush washer, start assembling the parts beginning with the crush washer.
Washers are made with soft metal and are used to create a tight seal around the bolts or threads.

Step 3: Install the adapter

After the first crush washer, the adapter should follow in installation. You can use the flat nut of the adapter to tweak the system and tighten the crush washer.

Step 4: Install the Additional Crush Washer and Flash Hider

Add the second crush washer and install the flash hider. You don’t have to sit in the flash hider very tight; use its flat nut for tightening. Tweak the flash nuts until the flash guard sits correctly in position.

Step 5: Unscrew the Thread Protector

Remove the thread protector from the adapter by unscrewing it after installing the two crush washers and the flash hider.

Step 6: Install the Flat Washer

Removal of the thread protector creates space for the flash washer. The flat washer will serve as the seat for the solvent trap.

Step 7: Install the Solvent Trap

Install the solvent trap tube by threading it in until it sits on the flat washer and the installation is complete.
When cleaning your firearm, use the simple steps above to install the adapter. The adapters should be cleaned with water after use and stored appropriately.

Simple Tips to Cleaning Your Firearm

As a good rule of thumb, it is best to clean your firearm after every use. Here are simple steps for cleaning your firearm with a solvent trap. Before you get started, disassemble your firearm as recommended by the manufacturer.

Install the adapter and Solvent Trap Tube

The first step is to install the adapter on your firearm and connect the solvent trap tube.

Clean the Barrel and Chamber

Brush the barrel and chamber in the muzzle’s direction to loosen and remove debris.
Dip a cleaning patch attached to the cleaning rod in a bore cleaner and saturate the chamber by pushing it through the chamber to the muzzle. Give the cleaning solvent time to break down the residue.
Using a bore brush, scrub inside the barrel. The solvent trap will capture the residue and cleaning solvent at the tip of the muzzle for effective disposal or storage. Lubricate the barrel.
Don’t forget to clean the exterior parts of the barrel, feed ramp, barrel lug, and barrel hood.

Clean the Action

Clean and lubricate the bolt, pump, and slide, using a solvent. Allow the sub-assemblies to dry and oil them.

Reassemble your Firearm

Reassemble your firearm and conduct a functional check to confirm that your firearm is working as intended. If everything is in place, wipe down the exterior to clear leftover debris, and give it a shine before storage.
Clean the barrel’s exterior, hood, lug, and feed ramp.

How to Buy a Solvent Trap Adapter

There are tons of outlets that distribute firearm accessories. Buy solvent trap adapters and other firearm accessories from licensed dealers like Armory Den.
Firearm laws and regulations are covered under federal and state laws. Understanding the rules and restrictions is critical when buying firearm accessories as a firearm user. Remember what the law says about solvent trap adapters; you should strictly use them for cleaning purposes.
Familiarize yourself with the regulations and laws surrounding their use.
The size of your firearm parts matter. When buying accessories like adapters, ensure they will fit properly. Check the thread size of your firearm threads and the solvent trap tube before buying to get the right fit.
Ensure the adapter threads are cut for easy and smooth installation. Armory Den’s thread adapters are cut using Computerized Numerical Control to ensure accurate sizing. The adapters are made from high-grade stainless steel, with an increased length on the outer thread.
This increases the ease of installation and guarantees secure attachment to the muzzle and solvent trap tubes.
Always inspect the accessories to ensure they are standard and in good shape.
While many dealers distribute solvent trap adapters, you have to go for one that offers superior quality, value, and service. Do your homework and confirm that their products are made with premium materials and can withstand rigorous use.
Armoryden.com supplies solvent trap adapters and cleaning kits that can withstand even the most stringent use, thanks to their high-quality materials and cutting-edge designs.
We understand the importance of proper firearm maintenance and therefore go to great lengths to provide products that enhance your firearm’s performance, reliability, and safety.
